If you display hidden files, you may find that you have an orphaned lock file relating to that document - see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm

If that doesn't fix it

Copy the following between (but excluding) the lines **************

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesFoldershellCommand Prompt]
@="Command Prompt Here . "

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesFoldershellCommand Promptcommand]
@="cmd.exe /k pushd %1"

and paste to Notepad. Save as "Command Prompt Here.reg"

This will add the command "Command Prompt Here" to the right click option in Windows Explorer. Right click the Command Prompt Here.reg file name in Windows Explorer and "Merge" with the registry.

Should you later wish to remove the command then copy and paste the following and save as "Command Prompt Here Remove.reg" and merge that with the registry

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

1) Locate the folder with the file that cannot be deleted

2) Right click the foldername in the navigation window and select the newly added Command Prompt Here. A Command window will open with the path name at the cursor.

3) Open windows task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). From the processes tab and locate explorer.exe. Right click on it and select end process (not end process tree). Do not close the task manager!

4) Go back to command prompt andat the cursor type

DEL "filename.doc" (where filename.doc is the name of the file you want to delete). Then press the Enter key.

Now the file is deleted.

5) Return to the Task Manager and select File > New Task. Type explorer.exe and click OK .

Explorer will restart and you can close the Command window
